Fran Pennington (FTAPP)
Landscapes, Birds, and Seascapes
You can trace Frances Tapp’s interest in art to her metropolitan Chicago upbringing and very artistic environment. Her father's hobby was semi-professional photography. Her mother took courses at the Vogue School of Design, and enjoyed designing and creating women's clothing. .An uncle graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and provided early inspiration for the fine arts in painting.
Though art was encouraged as an avocation, it was not considered a viable occupation, and Fran chose her vocation in the healing arts. She received a Science degree in ‘74 from University of Illinois Medical Center. As a health professional, she has worked in the public service sector for most of her life.
Lessening family obligations, and a friend's encouragement, led to re- examination of her artistic side. In 2003, that friend gave her an artist's acrylic paint box, and she's been enthused ever since.
Painting lets Fran find peace from her hectic work life, and transcend time and place while absorbed in creating new works. She loves to paint birds, and has experimented with other subjects, including fantasy, horses, landscapes and waterscapes. In 2005, she joined the Prince William Art Society, and was elected Vice- President in 2007. She currently lives in the northern Virginia area.
