Big Floral’s in Oil Pastels, Landscapes, Seascapes
Born in Kansas; Dorothy has lived in Utah, California and has resided in Virginia for the past 25 years. She has raised four children while building a career with the Federal Government.
Dorothy has always had an appreciation for art and has supported artists (as a patron) throughout her adult life; all the while wanting to pursue her own artistic talents. Being a working Mom with little time to devote to drawing and painting; she began drawing at night after the kids were in bed to wind down after a busy day to relieve stress.
About six years ago Dorothy started sketching portraits of people she would see in public places and her sketches began to draw attention; so Dorothy began sketching portraits of her co-worker’s children from photographs. They were well-received and that was when she realized she wanted to do more. Dorothy is self-taught and relied on local art workshops and private classes to learn the basics necessary to begin painting.
Currently Dorothy is a member of the Prince William Art Society and the Manassas Art Guild. She has participated in shows since 2011. Her first oil pastel painting won “The People’s Choice” award at the 2011 Prince William Art Society Spring Exhibit. For the past three years she has participated in local shows such as, the Occoquan Arts & Crafts Fair; Art’s Alive at the Prince William County Complex and has had her work exhibited at the Lorton Workhouse Art Center.
